Where I Was
Standing

Photographic Series & Soundscapes 7 Works Germany Ghulam Abbas Khan Soomro

Where I Was Standing is a photographic series accompanied by location-based soundscapes recorded at the exact places where each photograph was taken. The work explores moments of observation, presence, and detachment through everyday scenes. While the photographs appear quiet, still, and composed, the accompanying soundscapes introduce a different experience. Built from the original recordings of each location and intentionally left raw with layered ambient sounds, they create a subtle sense of chaos and unease.

Rather than simply documenting a place, the sound evokes an emotional atmosphere that may suggest what remains unseen or unspoken. This contrast between the calm image and the restless sound creates a dialogue between presence and absence, external reality and inner perception. Together, image and sound invite viewers to question how connection is experienced, imagined, or lost — responding to the exhibition theme through the tension between what is visible and what can only be heard.

On the soundscapes

Each photograph is accompanied by a location-based soundscape recorded at the exact place where the image was taken — intentionally left raw, layered with ambient sound, introducing a quiet sense of unease beneath the stillness of each frame. In the exhibition space, visitors experience both simultaneously.

On the soundscapes

Each photograph in this series is accompanied by a location-based soundscape recorded at the exact place where the image was taken. Intentionally left raw — layered, unedited ambient recordings — they introduce a quiet sense of unease beneath the stillness of each frame. The sound is not illustration; it is the other side of the image. In the exhibition space, visitors experience both simultaneously.
